8 Things you need when starting a new business

A good TO DO list! I have no idea how many To Do lists I created when getting ready to start my business and in those initial few months. I do love a To Do list (so so gratifying to tick things off!) and I am still editing and ticking items off my list all of the time. It helps clear my head and reduces stress.

Below are some examples of what TO DO when your new business is starting out.

  1. Create a TO DO list! Easy! Pen and paper, spreadsheet, phone app, whatever works for you is right for you.

  2. Register your business name. I did this before setting up any business accounts just in case it was already taken. In Ireland you can set it up here https://www.cro.ie/ (Companies Registration Office)

  3. Set up a naming files and filing system for your documents and accounts. Do this early before you get busy and confused. There is nothing more frustrating than being busy and wasting time looking for a certain document. I use dates, client names and job type on my files so I can check and find them easily.

  4. Set up a Google Business Account. This allows you to provide a description for your business, add your location to a map, add contact details and clients/customers can leave you (glowing) reviews.

  5. Create document templates. Invoice and other frequently used document templates are well worth organising early on. I’m all about saving time, and having templates sitting there can take the stress out of the admin side of your business.

  6. Create social media accounts and/or a website for your business.

  7. Tell EVERYONE you know that you started a new business and what you do. Your first customers will be a friend or, a friend of a friend or, a friend of a friend of a friend or... you get it! So share the good news and remember you’re offering a service or product of worth, so know your own worth and don’t shy away from keeping people informed.

  8. Oh and hire a good designer to create a super duper logo and identity that represents you and/or your business of course! :)

Now go high five yourself as you tick things off the list and appreciate your progress!
